The elderly population plays an important role in society, as older people carry valuable life experience, wisdom, and cultural knowledge. However, many elderly individuals face serious challenges such as poor health, financial insecurity, loneliness, and lack of proper care. Donations from individuals and organizations, are essential to improve their quality of life and ensure that they are treated with dignity and respect.

Moldova’s population is aging rapidly. In 2025, about 25.9% of the population were aged 60 and over,— meaning roughly 1 in 4 people is a senior Many older people struggle to cover all basic needs such as healthcare, food, and utilities on pension income alone

Day care centre offers social services and socialization activities to older people of the town of Straseni in the organization’s day care centre “Rasarit” as well as promotes positive changes in social norms, local planning and social policy, that will impact on all older people in Straseni district and ultimately across the country.

Elderly have access to basic services:hot meal, bathroom and shower facilities, having their laundry washed, as well as receiving health and wellbeing services (such as a health monitoring, massage, daily gymnastics and psychological counselling). .

Socialization activities: About 40 elderly a day have the opportunity to come for interaction and time together; they are offered a wide range of activities such as TV, games, handicrafts, music, sports, entertaining programs and competitions, performances. There are also organized clubs, in which older people visiting the centre can take part in (English course, beauty club, music club / choir, handicraft club, “I want to know” club for learning and discussing news, gardening, special activities such as Christmas. New Year party birthday celebrations).

Apart from the services presented above, the beneficiaries benefit of thematic trainings on the topics of and active aging.

The centres services are aimed exclusively at socially marginalized older people who register for the service and are assigned specific visit days. The center offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, featuring social and relaxation spaces displayed with the older people’s pictures and handicrafts. For many, it is not only a means of covering their basic needs, it also feels "like a palace" compared to their often desolate homes and provides them a warm meal, a shower, social interaction, and a safe place to go.

Ageing in Moldova

Moldova, one of Europe's smallest and poorest countries, faces unique demographic challenges as its population ages. For the elderly, life in Moldova is shaped by a mix of deep-rooted traditions, economic hardship, and a rapidly changing society. While family values remain strong and older people are often respected, the practical realities of aging in Moldova can be difficult.

Moldova has one of the highest rates of emigration in Europe. Millions of Moldovans have left in search of better opportunities, especially since the collapse of the Soviet Union. This outmigration has led to a "left-behind" generation—elderly parents or grandparents who remain in rural villages while their children and grandchildren live abroad.

This demographic shift has increased the number of elderly people living alone. Many depend on remittances sent from abroad, which often serve as their main source of income. Pensions are low, often below the subsistence level. The average monthly pension is less than €150, while basic living costs continue to rise. Many elderly Moldovans cannot afford basic healthcare, heating, or medicine, especially in winter months.

Access to healthcare is another significant concern. Moldova's medical system is underfunded and often inaccessible to the elderly, particularly in rural areas. Long waiting times, shortages of doctors, and out-of-pocket expenses make it difficult for many seniors to get proper treatment.

Social services are limited. Within the Day care center elderly have posibility to acces basic services such as shower, laundry, lunch, involve in activities handcraft, chorus, English lessons, dance clus, beauty club, play games, discus and interact with each other. For many of them who live alone the Center represent the only conection with society. the runing of the centre it is possible only due to the suport of donors- people with big heart and wiling to share.

Posibility to age with dignity for women

Dear friend

At the beginning of spring, the season of rebirth and hope, the season in which we celebrate women in all their beauty and splendor, we would like to dedicate this report to the women who are part of the day care center.

In the day care center we offer women the opportunity to age with dignity, to access services that cover basic needs such as personal hygiene, laundry, nutrition.

We have created and developed several interest-based clubs: the Women's Club which offers ladies the opportunity to their hair, to color it. Skin and hand care, the use of herbal products, personal hygiene are just some of the topics covered at the Women's Club meetings.

The Handmade Club brings together ladies with a passion for crochet and embroidery. The exchange of knowledge, practical lessons, making unique works provide a sense of usefulness and necessity. On the occasion of various international days are made specific products that beautify the center.

The club I want to know has reunite ladies passionate about new things who are looking for interesting and useful information and disseminate it to others. Members of the club are keen to read, to learn, to discover new things, to keep up with the times

English lessons are held once a week. At the lessons are participative and working atmosphere, ladies aged 70-80 years old study English with great interest in order to communicate with the guests and volunteers of the organization. After their lessons, like hard-working students, they prepare their homework, repeat, joke and have fun. .

The massage room is a good opportunity to benefit from massage sessions that tone muscles, maintain tone, relax muscles and revitalize the body.

Counseling is a service they have not used in their lifetime. They have not had the possibility to benefit from psychological counseling to overcome problems, traumas, to fight with fears and anxieties. Now the vast majority of women recognize that the session with the psychologist is very useful for them, they have someone to complain to, someone to open their heart to.

Recently for the ladies we organized an event dedicated to woman - mother, sister, daughter, friend, colleague, beneficiary. The Association invited children from the local kindergarten who came accompanied by their teachers and presented a recital of songs and poems dedicated to the dearest being - mother. The children created an extraordinary atmosphere, bringing positive emotions and color in the souls of those present.

All the activities and services of the center are possible to offer only thanks to the donors, those big-hearted people who find time and resources to support the work of the organization.
