The elderly population plays an important role in society, as older people carry valuable life experience, wisdom, and cultural knowledge. However, many elderly individuals face serious challenges such as poor health, financial insecurity, loneliness, and lack of proper care. Donations from individuals and organizations, are essential to improve their quality of life and ensure that they are treated with dignity and respect.
Moldova’s population is aging rapidly. In 2025, about 25.9% of the population were aged 60 and over,— meaning roughly 1 in 4 people is a senior Many older people struggle to cover all basic needs such as healthcare, food, and utilities on pension income alone
Day care centre offers social services and socialization activities to older people of the town of Straseni in the organization’s day care centre “Rasarit” as well as promotes positive changes in social norms, local planning and social policy, that will impact on all older people in Straseni district and ultimately across the country.
Elderly have access to basic services:hot meal, bathroom and shower facilities, having their laundry washed, as well as receiving health and wellbeing services (such as a health monitoring, massage, daily gymnastics and psychological counselling). .
Socialization activities: About 40 elderly a day have the opportunity to come for interaction and time together; they are offered a wide range of activities such as TV, games, handicrafts, music, sports, entertaining programs and competitions, performances. There are also organized clubs, in which older people visiting the centre can take part in (English course, beauty club, music club / choir, handicraft club, “I want to know” club for learning and discussing news, gardening, special activities such as Christmas. New Year party birthday celebrations).
Apart from the services presented above, the beneficiaries benefit of thematic trainings on the topics of and active aging.
The centres services are aimed exclusively at socially marginalized older people who register for the service and are assigned specific visit days. The center offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, featuring social and relaxation spaces displayed with the older people’s pictures and handicrafts. For many, it is not only a means of covering their basic needs, it also feels "like a palace" compared to their often desolate homes and provides them a warm meal, a shower, social interaction, and a safe place to go.
