Thanks to the continued support of our GlobalGiving donors, the Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) is delighted to report that the village of Bouka in the Kalalé District of Benin now has a water station powered by a solar pump! As you can see from this video, the excitement of opening day—the first time clean water is accessible to everyone in the village—is overwhelming.
Prior to the new water station, women and girls drew water from streams and open wells that are easily contaminated, leading to the spread of water-borne diseases. Having to go far from their villages in search of water, they also risked attacks from predators. No more!
We are profoundly grateful to every donor who helped make this clean water station a reality. Because of you, the villagers of Bouka will be healthier, and the women and girls will be safer.
