During the first part of 2025, we were proud to launch The Shadow of El Dorado — InSight Crime’s first investigative podcast series.
Set in Segovia, a gold mining town in Colombia’s department of Antioquia, The Shadow of El Dorado tells the story of how organized crime has embedded itself deep within the legal gold economy. Through years of fieldwork, firsthand interviews with miners, community leaders, and experts, our team uncovered how criminal groups use extortion, money laundering, and violence to control the gold trade — devastating local communities and fueling broader criminal economies.
This podcast represents a major step forward in how we share the realities of organized crime. By bringing listeners directly to Segovia — to the streets, mines, and homes affected by criminal power — we are building a stronger, more human connection to the people who live these stories every day. Their courage and resilience deserve to be heard around the world.
The Shadow of El Dorado is helping unmask hidden criminal dynamics and give a voice to those fighting back. We look forward to continuing this work — and we invite you to listen and share these stories that matter.
