By Alicia Florez | InSight Crime
In 2024, we launched InSight Crime’s podcast series: From the Ground Up. Through human stories we discovered during our fieldwork in Brazil, Colombia, the US-Mexico border, Honduras, Bolivia, and El Salvador, we explained organized crime and the systemic failures that facilitate it. To produce it, we teamed up with La No Ficción, a Colombian audio production house.
During this season we interviewed a pastor facing the dangers on the US-Mexico border, a Brazilian judge fighting one of the most powerful gangs in the hemisphere, a Colombian social leader resisting drug trafficking, and a collaborator of gangs in Honduras, trapped in the complexity of the prison system.
The podcast was well-received, and we averaged something in the range of 1,000 listeners per episode, a strong start. The audience of our podcast is mainly in the United States and Colombia, mostly because of our partnership with La No Ficción. But we are working on it, as we get ready for the second season in early 2025, and for our first long-form podcast series, which we will launch in early 2025 as well.
