Fundacion Michin is a Colombian non-profit organization that since 1958 has been committed to the care of children and adolescents (from 0 to 18) with violated rights and/or the prevention of their violation, creating protective environments and promoting family and community participation. Michin has 6 homes for residential care, 2 community centers and 17 foster families, benefiting more than 700 children and 300 families annually.
Colombia continues to face deep social inequalities and cycles of violence, where children and adolescents have always been the most affected and have seen their rights most violated. The Colombian conflict persists, spawning new criminal groups and insecurity despite the 2016 peace deal. the situation has not been resolved. Many children grow up in unstable environments, exposed to poverty, abuse, and a lack of educational opportunities.
Fundacion Michin provides protection and prevention programs to ensure children grow up in safe, loving environments. Through Protection Programs, we care for children separated from their families, offering residential care and foster homes with emotional and educational support. Our Prevention Programs strengthen parenting skills, promote children's rights, and prevent family separation. By investing in both, we empower families to break cycles of vulnerability and build a better future.
In the last 66 years, more than 36,000 children have benefited from Michin's programmes. With our work we help to restore children's rights, guaranteeing their access to housing, health, education and food, generating resilient children, adolescents with life projects, strengthened families and the construction of caring and protective communities, ensuring that fewer and fewer children are institutionalised.
