Many children with burns die in Ugandan hospitals. By local standards, burns are one of the more expensive conditions to treat because of the need to replace dressings frequently. Many hospitals are unable to provide the full medical and nursing support that the patient actually needs. Many parents have come to Whisper from other hospitals where they were told their child was unlikely to survive, but Whisper was able to treat them.
It will keep saving many lives most especially for some of the most underprivileged children coming from the world's poorest families. The funding we are looking for will help sustain the run of our so important and live-saving burn unit, that treated hundreds of severely burnt children over the last three years. The demand for this has tripled now, and we are no longer able to sustain it with our regular funding.
This funding will sustain the run of the burn unit for about 18 months, and marks Whisper's hospital as one of the only places to take children with burns.
