The aim of the programme is to help women develope ways of thinking to protect themselves and their children. We also provide the knowledge to enable them to do this.
The objectives are to give them the ability to take control of their lives. To recognise beliefs held by above men and how this may allow the abusive behaviour to continue. We aim to increase their ability to recognise abusive behaviour and identify what they need to do to protect themselves and their children.
The format of the programme is a 6 week interactive group sessions. There is group discussion and feedback. Handouts are given out to summerize the topice covered.
Week 1 - Introduction. The dominator and the bully.
Week 2 - Bad father and the afects on children.
Week 3 - headworker and the jailor.
Week 4 - Sexual controller and the King of the Castle.
Week 5 - Liar and the persuader.
Week 6 - Warning signs.
Having sat in a 6 week programme as part of my induction I learnt that a lot of women saw part of the abuse they suffered. Lots came to realise that other forms of abuse were also happening to them. Teaching women to recognise abuse early is vital.
The Freedom programme is a vital part of the work that we do.
