The war in Ukraine is still raging and girls' lives are at stake. Your gift supports Plan International's response to the crisis in Ukraine, which is focused on refugee children and their families in Poland, Moldova and Romania, including work in the areas of protection, psychosocial support, emergency education and meeting basic needs for children and families that fled their homes with little more than the clothes on their backs.
Anna is a 7-year old girl from Ukraine. Before the war, she was a choir singer. But after witnessing people die as she fled the country, Anna has not only stopped singing - she has stopped speaking altogether. Her mother says she only talks in her sleep. Anna's silence tells a heartbreaking story: this war is destroying childhoods and will leave a devastating, lasting impact. Although some have escaped the crossfire, in the chaos of war refugee girls are far from safe and we must act now.
Plan International is working with local organizations in Poland, Moldova and Romania to protect the rights of children. We are providing vital psychological support to children like Anna who have witnessed the horrors of war. We are providing critical education resources for refugee students returning to school. We are providing menstrual products and other essentials to meet basic needs. But your support is urgently needed to scale up these operations and help keep children safe.
Plan International is focusing on strengthening the capacity of local organizations working in refugee reception and transit centers, bringing our global expertise on child-centered programming in crisis settings. For example, we are helping to train border police and immigration officials on identification, registration and documentation of unaccompanied and separated children and on anti-trafficking measures to ensure that refugee children now and in the future are protected.
