Update on our much-loved school bus and truck!
Both the bus and truck are up to the current standards! They continue to safely transport our students to and from school each day, thus providing access to education to those without. This would not be possible without your generous support and donations. Thanks to all our current, future, and past donors, we are able to offer free and safe transportation to our children.
Although staff members at DEPDC/GMS monitor the school bus and truck year round, the official government safety inspection for the truck was completed at the end of October. Donations received through Global Giving helped pay for the cost of the yearly inspection, monthly insurance, oil change, and the gas for transport during school days and to Chiang Rai (approximately one hour from Mae Sai) to complete official vehicle requirements. Your support was greatly needed and appreciated!
Our school bus and beloved blue truck are crucial in providing local and cross-border transport for at-risk children throughout the school week. Typically the school’s transportation is dedicated entirely to the students and staff DEPDC/GMS; however, the month of October was an important time for all of Thailand and many others across the world. The use of both vehicles was donated on October 26th for the cremation ceremony of King Bhumibol. As the school was closed and the children on break, DEPDC/GMS was honored to be able to provide transport to the community to access the ceremony free of charge.
Additionally, the blue truck allowed four staff members to attend Child’s Dream 2nd Workshop for Migrant Education which was held from November 3rd through the 5th in Mae Sot. Mae Sot is approximately a 10 hour journey from Mae Sai, Chiang Rai. This workshop allowed DEPDC/GMS to learn from and collaborate with other organizations who provide education to children of migrants or undocumented ethnic minority groups. All of the teachers at the Half Day School use motorbikes for daily transportation, so this continuing education would not have been possible without the support which keeps our bus and truck operable. Your donations are appreciated beyond the expression of words!
*Note: Please keep DEPDC/GMS in mind during #GivingTuesday and the remainder of the holiday season. Your donations go further on #GivingTuesday (November 28th) thanks to the generosity of Global Giving. DEPDC must receive a minimum of $5000 in donations to be eligible for donation awards. Can you help make this possible?
Thank you for your time and for supporting the work we do to help stateless children receive an education. We could not do this without the kindness of people like you.
Sincerely,
Kristin Moreau
