At Patak Half Day School our school bus and truck program is continuing to provide safe transportation for the at-risk children that attend our school. The regular attendance of our students is made possible due to this program. Without it we could not ensure the children’s attendance to school and thus the education, life skills, awareness, and training they receive. Every morning the bus picks up the students from surrounding villages, as well as the Myanmar border. At the end of the day, the truck makes two rounds dropping the students off back at their homes.
In order to keep the kids safe we have to do routine checks on the truck and bus and make any repairs necessary for their continued use. This semester we had the school bus brakes repaired, changed the engine oil, and had the tires and wheels checked. In addition to the routine maintenance of the bus we also had the truck’s cauldron rinsed, changed the engine oil, replaced the bumper and taillights, and repaired the clutch cylinder.
Last semester we reported that the truck went through a registration renewal. This semester it was the bus’s turn! We had the bus registration renewed as safety is our priority. We used the bus this semester to send the students on a study tour of the Sufficiency Project that is run by the disabled community. We also used the bus to send the students of the Mae Sai Non-formal education department to take their exams in the Chiang Rai province.
From all the staff and students here at DEPDC we would like to offer a sincere thank you to all our past, present and future donors. Thank you for supporting our mission to provide free education and free and safe transportation for at-risk children and youth in the border town of Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, Thailand. DEPDC/GMS could not do this without the kindness and generosity of people like you.
