On the 9th of May the 2016/2017 school year started and our school buses provide safe transportation to school again. Every morning and afternoon our school bus runs its 25km round to the villages around Mae Sai collecting and sending the students from and back to home.
During the past term break DEPDC started with the first repairs on our two school buses. Our six-wheeler truck received a engine oil change and an inspection so far.
For the pick-up truck the repairs made further progress. The battery got replaced and the engine inspected. Concerning the planned repairs the pick-up truck only needs new tires and is good to use for some more years.
The bad news is that two new defects occurred on the pick-up truck causing additional repairs and raising costs. During the term break the pick-up truck's door and tailgate locking mechanism broke and furthermore the clutch failed.
As the broken locking mechanism caused an immediate danger to our students and the damaged clutch made the pick-up truck unusable these two failures needed to be addressed instantly. The unforeseen expenses delayed the planned repair schedule and will stall non security related repairs until funding can be secured.
DEPDC's students, staff, and volunteers would like to thank all our current, future, and past donors for their generous support without which we would not be able to do our work in preventing at-risk children from human-trafficking through education. Many thanks to everybody.
