Dear friend!
We heartedly thank you for supporting our project at GlobalGiving!
With your support we are continuing the developmental sessions on the method of "Portage" with children with severe disabilities in the Elatma`s orphanage. So, in September, there were conducted 294 sessions. Four specialists were daily engaged with 14 children individually, thanks to which children acquired 14 new skills!
So, Kolya S. (the name is changed) mastered 3 skills at once! It was possible to develop fine motor skills of the hands, communication skills, cognitive abilities. Also our specialists were practicing with him the actions that would allow the child to be more independent in life. Kolya has consistently achieved success in almost everything. It is pleasing that he began to sit in a pear-chair, directly holding his head for 5 minutes! No wonder the boy was taught to pull himself by the fingers of an adult and sit from the first month of sessions!
Also, Kolya was diligently learning to drop his hands in a basin of water, and then, to wet them, pouring some water on his face. This is a necessary stage for "special" children in mastering the ability to wash, wipe their face and hands. Kolya has worked out this useful skill to automatism.
And the nine-year-old Pauline L. (name changed) has acquired the ability to draw with a pencil and a felt-tip pen. She is also developing the skill to zip up the clothes. Also Polina knows where her playing place in the game room, but recently the girl for the first time has put a stool for the tutor opposite to herself! By her actions and success, Polina seems to be challenging, because the child has a Down syndrome and a deep development delay, in addition to other concomitant diagnoses. But classes on Portage help her to develop!
So, month after month, the life of children with severe and multiple disabilities is steadily changing for the better! Thanks to everyone who is involved in this! Without your participation children would be deprived of the opportunity to develop the most important everyday skills, of constant attention of an adult close to them, of walks and joy of communication!
Stay with us, making donations and telling us about your friends. For these children, development means life!
