We appreciate your generosity, kindness, and assistance with Street Child's home-based education programme in the North and East of Sri Lanka. An update on the projects development is something we are happy to share.
In order to address the extended loss of learning due to the Covid-19 pandemic Street Child implemented a remote education intervention from 2021 to 2022 with the goal of producing long-lasting outcomes throughout Sri Lanka's Northern and Eastern Provinces,. A total of 1300 pupils who were forced to miss class due to the COVID-19 epidemic were helped by the home-based learning initiative with their necessary remote learning. With minimal disruption to their education, students were assisted in making the transition between their home and school-based learning contexts. In the Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa education zones in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, Street Child used relationships with local government officials to enhance activities toward implementing Education Technology (Ed-tech) within the school community.
The home-based learning program helped pupils in remote locations to avoid losing out on their learning. Five Zonal Educational offices in the provinces of the North and East directly implemented this program with our local network of partners. 1300 students received interactive learning materials for English as part of the learning assistance package. A further245 teachers received training in inclusive and interactive learning, which includes the use of digital learning resources at all 19 Northern schools.
The program for home-based learning will be discontinued at the end of March 2023.
Due to one of the country's biggest economic crises to date and the COVID-19 pandemic, living circumstances have gotten worse and children's education has been seriously disrupted. Most children are experiencing food insecurity as a result of this catastrophe. In April 2023, Street Child intends to launch the project to address the issue. We anticipate your customary support for this endeavor as well.
