Planting season is approaching quickly! Greenstand's Treetracker app aims to facilitate payments to 50 farmers across Tanzania for their tree growing services that reforest barren regions and help to revitalize these landscapes to make them healthy & productive once again. Please help us get these vital trees planted and cared for before the rainy season comes to an end!
Reforestation initiatives are gaining worldwide popularity in the face of the climate crisis. Projects are focused in rural communities, where locals are expected to take on the tree growing work. However, these humans, who are already living in extreme poverty, are not typically compensated for their stewardship efforts. The reforestation industry does not yet standardize planter compensation, monitoring, or tree care over time.
Our Treetracker platform maximizes social impact for rural, impoverished communities by allowing them to steward the ecosystems they already rely upon. Greenstand verifies that trees grow healthily and that their growers are fairly compensated for their efforts. Each tracked tree and selected ecological data is displayed publicly on our Web Map. Growers re-track their trees periodically, which helps improve tree survival rates and provides a monetary incentive to continue their vital work.
Greenstand believes that mindsets and behaviors can and must change. The status quo across Africa forces residents of impoverished communities to choose between growing trees for the long-term environmental benefits or cutting them down to support the family today. By incentivizing these people to plant and monitor trees, we strive to shift local mindsets to valuing trees. As we grow more trees, environmental disasters will decrease, the land can repair itself and become viable once again.
