This report covers the first quarter of the project (January to March 2014).
In Quarter 1 our Head of Programmes and two local Master Trainers, delivered a pilot ‘Street Business Toolkit’ Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in Sekondi-Takoradi, in direct partnership with the Head of States Award Scheme - Ghana (HOSA Ghana). The Toolkit was delivered to 28 street-connected young people (female & male), and provided training that is accessible to youth with low literacy levels and little experience of formal education, guiding them through simple, practical steps to plan and start a business.
The two-week workshop also trained 15 frontline youth workers (female & male) from 11 local youth-serving organisations (YSOs), in the business knowledge and facilitation skills needed to deliver the Toolkit on an ongoing basis. In order that Street Kids’ training methodology gets integrated into the youth training programmes of the participating local YSOs, those local YSOs are expected to roll-out the training to more marginalised young people in their areas of operation, using the newly acquired knowledge and skills of the youth workers trained by Street Kids International. Each trained youth worker is expected to train at least 10 additional street-active youths during the project period, i.e. minimum 150 young people.
Finally, the participating YSOs have collectively established a Community of Practice (CoP), which will meet regularly to oversee on-going training, share experiences and best practices in youth livelihoods programmes, and monitor the project outcomes and impact.
