Ultimate Come-Up FSS Conference
Ultimate Come-Up FSS Conference

In less than 30 days, we will be taking the Wealthfair RV to the great state of Texas to convene a series of conferences geared to helping fathers become higher income earners, stronger parent partners, and better fathers.  We are calling this the Ultimate Come-Up Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Conference-Poverty elimination strategies for programs and families.

Details on the upcoming conferences can be found here on our website:

We are excited to have great speakers like Glen Warren from Fathers Forever and Dr. Jacob Hopson from the Vineyard.  Fathers will learn how best to build and sustain healthy relationships, and gain access to resources, education, and training all while becoming strengthened by leaders who are dedicated to building strong fathers.

We hope that you will continue your support of Fathers as we work towards moving One Million Moms OFF Welfare.

I want to first thank you for the support that you have given to this initiative.  Your generous support shows that you understand the importance of fathers.  We are diligently working on changing the narrative of low-income African American men and women in America.

We recently conducted some research to see who and what initiatives ranked at the top of many giving/donation platforms.  It was shocking to learn that animals consistently take the lead.  You'll rarely find support for fathers- particularly low-income fathers.  While I may have my own beliefs as to why this is, I can quickly say, this should not be.

Did you know that:

  • In 2017, blacks represented 12% of the U.S adult population but made up 33% of the sentenced prison population
  •  Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly 5 times the rate of white Americans.
  • In 12 states, more than half the prison population is Black: Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

When a father comes home from prison, they are banned from decent-paying jobs, and in many instances, they are denied housing.  How can a man who has paid his time in prison, redeem his life back to normalcy if he is constantly penalized for being a "criminal".

That is why we are in this fight for the long haul.  We know and understand you can not move One Million Moms OFF Welfare without addressing the needs of fathers.

Again, thank you for your support!

I pray that you will continue to support our efforts to support fathers.

Amidst the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, there is one thing that is absolute.  The BLM has to become more than a phrase, bumper sticker, or advertisement campaign.  With more than $76 billion dollars being raised for the BLM movement, it's unfortunate that organizations like Can I Live who has been doing grassroots work where it counts for more than 17 years, have little to no success raising funds.  We would love your advice on how we can improve.

We joined this platform to help spread the impact of our work.  We cannot move One Million Moms OFF Welfare without addressing the needs of FATHERS- Period!

While there are tons of support for wildlife, the one demographic of species that has not only been forgotten but ignored is the African American Male Human Being.  The head of families, provider, and protector of his children.

Thus far, your support has helped us retain a contractor who assists us in recruiting fatherhood program partners and share with them our resources, networks, education, and advocacy tools.  We have only been able to retain him for a few short hours per month.  We are working on other grants to stabilize this source of funding and operations as it is vital to Can I Live achieving its mission to move One Million Moms OFF Welfare by 2030.

I want to thank you for your support because YOU GET IT!  You Understand!  And we believe soon, the entire world will also understand how important it is to support fathers to become higher income earners, better parent partners, and better fathers.  This is the starting point to reducing and curbing crime, poverty, mass incarceration, juvenile delinquency, children in foster care, poor education outcomes, and incomes.

Thank you for all you do!  Please continue to support this initiative and share with your networks this worthly cause.

Until next time...

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom and yet deprecate agitation are men who want crops without plowing up the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning". These are the famous words of Frederick Douglass who also stated and believed that "a man who will not fight for himself, when he HAS the means of doing so, is not worth being fought for by others".

These words ring very true as we approach the depths of this project.  Our fathers are so worn down, that they cannot muster the strength to fight alongside in this battle of child support.  After all, when have they seen progress?  "Why to get your hopes up only to be let down," says Mr. James during one of our recent podcasts.

Realizing that the topic of helping fathers would be hard, we are dedicated nonetheless to the fight.  We will continue to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.  We will continue to be the voice for those who have lost theirs.  We have increased the education and awareness through our online podcast dedicated to helping fathers increase child support payments.

Our podcasts can be viewed here:

Our upcoming animation project is still looking for an animator to complete the animation of the stage play. We believe this format is critical in bringing about awareness and education on child support matters and policies that can exacerbate the one-sided criminal justice system.

We thank you for your support and look forward to producing a finished product with your generous support.

Thank you for your support for the DADS ARE NOT DEADBEATS- THEY'RE DEAD BROKE CAMPAIGN.

We have just finalized our trailer and sent it off to the animator.  Our Animator lives in Nigeria and was found on  We are excited to work with him on this project. Our goal is to have our complete trailer animated and ready to debut on 2/1/2021.  Once we release the trailer we will also be in a position to sell tickets to the live debut on Fathers Day (June 20, 2021).

Our podcast will promote and feature this work for the next six months.  We are currently working with a public relations firm that will ensure we get this message and work out to as many people as possible.  The 6-month long promotion campaign is created to stir up conversation, community, and cut through the conflict that exists in African American families.

We can hardly wait for this exciting work to hit the market.  We understand that patience is a virtue and great things take time.

Here is some other great news that we believe will raise major attention to this work!

Can I Live (CIL) was recently filmed an interview for an upcoming documentary called Race to Equality.  Our wonderful work was featured in this national shift changer along with other popular voices.  We believe this will soon raise the footprint of CIL and increase awareness for our platform.

We also realize that we are new to the GlobalGiving platform and these efforts require consistent donor cultivation. This is a priority for the CIL central office.

We believe that we will see huge increases over the next few months in hopes to actualize our mission and vision.

Thank you for supporting our work.  We are a very unique organization offering unique services that really focus on where the holes are in our current community and economic development system.

Please consider making your donations monthly.  We are good soil to sow good seeds and reap a great outcome!

Thank you!  We are very fortunate for your support!

Be Safe and Healthy in  2021!
