Greetings from Pattaya in Thailand. Today we would like to update you about the Tamar Training Program that has been going on for three months and finished recently.
From the six women that started the training program five graduated after completing the program. Sadly, one women left in the middle of the program due to health reasons. She had HIV and took a turn for the worse and due to her immune system being very low the Doctor advised her not to live in community until her health improved.
The other women enjoyed the three-month long training and learned the basics of cooking, baking, sewing, hairdressing and card making as well as receiving counseling, finance training and teaching on a lot of different topics. It was a really nice training, the students bonded well with the Trainers and we see big progress in most of the women. Now, almost six weeks after the training finished, we can report that all the women are still going strong. One left us and got a job at a local Hotel where she is working at the reception, one is half way through training to become a cook and is working in our own Tamar Restaurant, one other lady has just stared a further bakery training and for one women we are currently looking at schools for sewing. She wants to learn the sewing of Thai traditional dance costumes in order to start a small business in that area. It is really nice to see them continuing their education and going strong.
We were also able to visit the family of one of the women in Issan and spent a long weekend there, explaining to the family and village about Tamar Center and also why it is not good for young women to come to Pattaya and to start in prostitution.
Since the training finished we took in two more girls that did not want to work in the bars and brothels of Pattaya anymore.
As you can see, it has been a busy time for us and right after the training finished we received a huge order for Christmas Cards. In the last weeks the women worked very hard on finishing this order and it was all hands-on deck to get all the cards done in time to send them to a customer in Germany. This week we are working on a couple of smaller orders for cards and also our bakery is very busy with a bigger order of cakes for delivery for a big Party- which is a great opportunity for our new women to learn some baking skills. (If you are interested in some handmade Christmas Cards from our women, you can order them here: https://tamarproducts.com/collections/christmas )
Thank you for making our work possible and for helping our women to get a chance at a new life. When we compare the pictures from them coming to us in May and now, we see a huge difference. Especially the woman that left to work in the Hotel - when she came, she had no self-worth, was very shy, but after receiving counseling and help, she is now a confident person that runs a reception desk. What a change! Thank you for making this possible!
