Hello everybody and greetings from Pattaya. Today I just want to give you a short update on the progress of our vocational Training Program that is running right now. We are in week nine already and have four more weeks to go.
While I am writing this, I am sitting our Tamar Restaurant. One of the woman from our Training is this morning for the first time alone responsible for the running of the restaurant. I am sitting down here and work from here just to observe and to help if there are any problems. But so far, she is doing very well. She has a good eye for the work, good communication skills with the customers and does a very good job. When I think that in April she was still selling her body in the brothels of this City the transformation is very radical.
Altogether the Training has been going well. The girls have made good progress in the different skills that they are learning. Some have already decided that they like hairdressing or baking and some are still undecided. But they enjoyed getting training in all the different areas as it gives them an opportunity to try things out.
In the counseling sessions, there have also been some breakthroughs for some women but not for all. Sadly, there is one woman especially that is not really opening up and with that she is not really ready to work on the issues in her life. Her past, what we know, is difficult and we hope that before the Training is over, she will be ready to open up to one of the Counselors so that she can receive healing.
We also had two weeks ago a special day of Finance Training, taught by the first woman that Tamar Center took more than 10 years ago out of the bars. She is working for another organization in Pattaya right now and as she has been where the women are, she was a good choice to teach them about budgeting, saving money and the dangers of taking out loans, especially from private loan sharks.
Tonight, we will celebrate the months birthdays together as a Tamar Family and will follow this up with a movie night. Looking forward to it.
So much as a short update for you. Thank you for your continued support of our work. You are making the change in the women possible!
For the Tamar Family
