Dear Friends,
Mohammad Aref Jafari held a degree in Economics from Balkh University and spent many years working with the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission in Daykundi Province. Throughout his career, he was actively involved in promoting human rights, supporting education, and contributing to social development in his community.
Facing persecution and serious security threats, he was forced to leave Afghanistan and seek safety in Europe. Tragically, he suffered a brain injury while traveling through Greece and passed away on April 28, 2026. He left behind his wife and two young daughters in Afghanistan, along with a 14-year-old daughter living in a refugee camp. The family has since faced severe economic hardship and continuing security concerns.
Hussain Moin and Mohamad Jawad Dadgar, two of his former colleagues, in collaboration with Bamyan Foundation, organized a fundraising campaign (https://goto.gg/f/88162) to help the family. The campaign ran from May 7 to May 15, 2026, bringing together financial contributions from individuals who wanted to assist the family during this difficult time.
The public campaign raised USD 1,170. Bamyan Foundation added a further 60% (USD 702) bringing the total to USD 1,872, and covered all transaction fees so the family received the full amount without deductions.
Bamyan’s partner on the ground coordinated the distribution of the assistance to Mrs. Jafari in Afghanistan. Mrs. Jafari expressed gratitude to the Bamyan Foundation and the generous donors who supported her and her children through this campaign.
Thank you,
Timor + The Bamyan Foundation team
