It was a cold Saturday morning, when an emergency call was received at the command and control center at the Aman Foundation. Mr. Sharif, aged 70, was residing in Orangi Town Sector-16, Karachi, Pakistan. Fortunately, since the Aman Ambulance had a key-point in close proximity, the ambulance was able to reach him in a very short time.
Upon reaching the patient’s residence, the ambulance crew immediately conducted an initial assessment of the patient. Mr. Sharif had a history of Ischemic Heart Disease and had altered level of consciousness (ALOC). Hurriedly, the ambulance crew shifted the patient to the ambulance with complete protocol.
During the journey, EMT Shahzad was assessing the patient continuously in the ambulance. At one point, the patient’s condition got very serious and he collapsed. The Aman staff attached AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and started CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) on the patient. After 5 cycles of CPR, Mr. Sharif was successfully reverted with return of spontaneous circulation. The ambulance reached Abbasi Shaheed hospital in due time and Mr. Sharif was immediately admitted in the ICU.
Mr. Sharif had very slim chances of surviving had the ambulance lacked necessary medical equipment and trained medical staff. Several ambulance services operate in Karachi, Pakistan, however, the missing link is the presence of trained medical personnel, equipment and life-saving medicines.
Aman Ambulance, the only life-saving ambulances on the streets of Karachi have to-date, made more than 955,000 emergency interventions. We are committed to transforming lives of the underprivileged in our country, who are often denied their basic right to healthcare.
Your support can help us enlarge this impact and save more lives! It is due to donors as yourself, that we have been able to transform the state of emergency medical care services in Pakistan. With your donations, we will continue to save more lives every day.
