It was a cold morning of 22nd November in 2017, when Mustaq, a 40 year old resident of Karachi, Pakistan, left his home, with no idea of what was awaiting him. He had not imagined in his worst nightmares, that he would be a victim of such a brutal hit and run accident. However, destiny was on Mustaq’s side that day when fortunately, the Aman Ambulance that was on its way back towards its key point after an intervention, happened to pass by the same road.
When the ambulance crew’s eyes caught the sight of an injured man lying on the side of the road, the Aman paramedic immediately hurried towards the patient to examine him. Mustaq was about to lose consciousness and had severe head and chest injuries. There was excessive bleeding from the head and also there were multiple fractures in the victim’s upper and lower limbs.
After assessing the victim, the Aman crew lifted the victim on the spine board and applied the cervical collar on him for spiral support. In the ambulance, the staff provided appropriate life-saving treatment in accordance with the protocols and safely shifted the victim to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre.
The highlight of this successful intervention was the integrity shown by the emergency medical staff whereby an amount of Rs. 61,000 PKR along with a mobile phone was safely handed over by the ambulance crew to the Medical Laboratory Observer at the hospital.
The Aman Ambulance is the only life-saving ambulance in the city, equipped with necessary medical facilities and highly trained pre-hospital care staff and a doctor as well. Aman Ambulances have completed over 955,000 interventions to date, and with your donations, we will continue to save more every day. It is due to donors as yourself, that we have been able to transform the state of emergency medical care services in Pakistan.
