Following the successful rebuild of Imi Oughlad Primary School in the High Atlas Mountains, this project supports the construction of three more rural schools. Thousands of children and young people had their education disrupted when an earthquake struck Morocco in September 2023. Schools in this region were hardest hit with many completely destroyed. Each new school we build will provide classrooms for more than 100 pupils, staff accommodation, washrooms, equipment and learning materials.
Schools in the High Atlas Mountains suffered significant damage after the devastating earthquake in Morocco in 2023. Normal routines for school children were significantly disrupted. The rebuilding of schools in the region is now fully underway but each stage can take many months. Following structural assessments, construction projects must adhere to stringent requirements. Many pupils continue to learn in temporary units on a reduced timetable.
The Eve Branson Foundation has recently built and opened a new school in the village of Imi Oughlad, providing a blueprint for other school construction projects. Our community-based expertise and knowledge means we can work with local leaders and educational representatives to accelerate the rebuild of more schools in the region. This project focuses on building three primary schools and a pre-school located in the Imlil and Asni valleys. It will also replace washrooms at an existing school.
We believe that children and young people everywhere should have access to education in a safe and familiar environment. Our involvement in the project will ensure that hundreds of pupils will be able to attend lessons in a modern, nearby school and benefit from a quality education in line with the national curriculum. With your support, we can unlock the potential of future generations.
