Zanmi Lasante (ZL) has been a lifeline for thousands of people living with HIV and TB in Haiti. Our HIV and TB programs are facing devastating cuts due to a reduction in U.S. Government funding. More than 17,000 vulnerable patients across two of Haiti's most vulnerable departments are at risk of losing access to lifesaving care. We seek urgent support to sustain treatment, sustain community health services, and prevent a regress in decades of progress.
For over 35 years, ZL has led the fight against HIV and TB in Haiti's Central Plateau and Lower Artibonite regions. However, the U.S. Government funding cuts are severely disrupting HIV and TB care globally and in Haiti. Our patients face treatment interruptions, medication shortages, and reduced access to vital community-based services like testing, home visits, and psychosocial support. Without immediate action, these disruptions could lead to rising transmission rates and preventable deaths.
This funding cut doesn't just threaten our ability to deliver care - it threatens lives. With your support, ZL will maintain HIV and TB services across 12 sites. Funds will go directly to securing medications and diagnostic supplies, patient social support, supporting community health workers - who are the backbone of our outreach model, and ensuring continuity of care for patients. This emergency bridge funding will stabilize critical programs and protect years of health gains.
Sustaining these services will save lives and preserve decades of work reducing the prevalence of HIV and TB in Haiti. Continued care prevents drug resistance, reduces new infections, and strengthens the health system. Investing ensures that communities remain resilient, healthier and better prepared to respond to future challenges despite further USG funding cuts. We know what works. We've seen the power of community-based care. We've seen people recover and thrive. But we can't do it alone!
