ICA Nepal conducted series of interrelated activities in the last month to provide COVID-19 relief materials and awareness to local people of the Terai region.

ICA Nepal conducted series of interrelated activities in the last month to provide COVID-19 relief materials and awareness to local people of the Terai region.

1. WASH awareness and sanitary pads distribution to women and girls

We distributed sanitary napkins to girls. Many girls and women are unable to use sanitary napkins due to period poverty which has been worsened due to the COVID situation.

We also taught children of rural communities to wash hands and maintain hygiene. They were engaged in unhygienic behavior when we initially met them.

2. COVID-19 relief materials to the institution of community people

COVID relief materials were distributed to marginalized people of the Terai region in the country at their institution.

Learnings:

  1. There is an urgent need for funding for hospitals; either financial or technical.
  2. People are still affected by COVID-19 though the rate of infection has plunged. This is because less number of people are testing.

 Next Steps:

We have planned the following activities for the next months.

  1. Provide essential equipment oximeter, oxygen cylinder, and a digital thermometer, which we could not supply this time due to limited funds, along with other basic supplies to hospitals.

Due to the limitation of fund we planned a better way of conducting awareness and distributing relief materials to community people. If we receive sufficient fund, we plan to provide relief materials to hospital.
