Help Burundian Poor Population in Hard Situation
Project Report
Presented by: Save life make difference
Executive Summary
Burundi remains one of the most vulnerable countries in East Africa, where thousands of families continue to face extreme poverty, food insecurity, unemployment, displacement, poor healthcare access, and lack of educational opportunities. The economic crisis, climate-related disasters, rising food prices, and limited social protection systems have pushed many communities into severe hardship.
The project “Help Burundian Poor Population in Hard Situation” was launched by Save life make difference to provide urgent humanitarian assistance and long-term community support to vulnerable populations across Burundi. The initiative focuses on improving living conditions through food assistance, healthcare support, access to clean water, education assistance, emergency shelter, livelihood development, and social empowerment programs.
Currently, the project has raised $1,834 out of the $850,000 fundraising goal, with support from 10 generous donors. Although this contribution has already helped several families in urgent need, the humanitarian demand remains extremely high. Additional support is urgently required to expand relief efforts and reach thousands more vulnerable people.
This report presents the background, objectives, implementation strategies, challenges, achievements, financial overview, expected impact, and future sustainability of the project.
Background and Context
Burundi is among the poorest nations in the world. A large percentage of the population lives below the poverty line, particularly in rural areas where access to essential services remains limited. Many families survive on small-scale agriculture, yet climate change, floods, droughts, and poor harvests have significantly reduced agricultural productivity.
The country also faces multiple social challenges, including:
High unemployment rates among youth
Food shortages and malnutrition
Limited access to quality healthcare
Lack of clean drinking water
Inadequate housing conditions
School dropout due to poverty
Vulnerability of women, children, elderly people, and persons with disabilities
In many communities, families are unable to afford daily meals, school materials, medicines, or decent shelter. Children are often forced to abandon education due to lack of school fees and basic necessities.
In response to these growing humanitarian concerns, Save life make difference developed this project to provide immediate relief while promoting sustainable community resilience and self-reliance.
Problem Statement
Thousands of vulnerable people in Burundi are currently living in extremely difficult conditions characterized by:
Chronic hunger and malnutrition
Poor sanitation and unsafe water
Lack of healthcare services
Limited educational opportunities
Inadequate housing and shelter
Economic instability and unemployment
Increased vulnerability to natural disasters
Women and children are the most affected groups. Many widows, orphans, internally displaced families, and elderly individuals lack social support and basic human necessities.
Without intervention, poverty levels will continue to worsen, increasing health risks, social instability, school dropout rates, and community vulnerability.
