The impact of COVID-19 in India has been highly disruptive, destroying both lives and livelihoods. As we adapt to these unprecedented circumstances, Educate Girls is continuing to serve the most marginalized and vulnerable communities who have been disproportionately affected with the loss of livelihoods, lack of food, poor access to health facilities, sub-optimal education and other basic needs. We were able to impact 500k people and 250k children last year through this. Need is much more now!
The pandemic has disproportionately hurt the marginalized communities with loss of livelihoods, lack of food, etc. Many people lack proper documentation (Ration Card/Aadhar Card) and are not able to avail of any government schemes. These villages are situated in remote areas where the supply of medicines and basic groceries has been massively hit. Many of them are struggling to deal with losing family members to Covid and providing food for their families.
Our team is supporting the local administration with relief work in rural villages through a network of 14,000 Team Balika (community volunteers) & 1400 field staff. We are distributing grocery kits to households that need urgent food support. We are also speaking to village leaders, school teachers and families on how to keep children engaged through various learning activities & highlighting the needs of the girl child for proper sanitation and nutrition. We impacted 500k people last year.
Providing food support to needy households in rural village will help save lives by providing them with nutritious food during this crisis. This immediate relief will also help bring down cases of domestic violence, child marriages, sexual abuse, child trafficking etc, that have been on the rise since the pandemic started. It will also help people recover faster from the crisis and be better prepared for any upcoming waves of Covid-19 pandemic.
