In rural India, entrenched gender norms keep girls out of school, especially in remote and tribal villages. Many face child marriage, early pregnancy, trafficking, malnutrition, and abuse driven by poverty and systemic inequality. That is why Educate Girls works to find and enroll out of school girls. Focused on high incidence villages, we work to increase enrollment and retention for marginalized girls in grades 1 to 10. Our staff and community volunteers go door to door to identify every out of school girl, counsel families, and support enrollment. We also mobilize communities through meetings and strengthen school management efforts. To ensure girls stay and learn, we closely track their progress and keep returning until every girl is enrolled. We have enrolled 2M girls in school so far.
Educating girls is one of the most powerful investments a nation can make. It transforms not only her life, but the future of her family and community. Research shows that when girls are educated, child and maternal mortality decline, birth rates stabilize, violence against women decreases, and family health and national income improve.
