Gang violence in the Haitian capital and surrounding municipalities has led to a massive displacement of families to improvised camps. These households are living in extremely precarious conditions, depending on outside aid for survival. The organization Action et Transformation conducted a psychosocial assessment to better understand their needs and perspectives and to determine the necessary support they require.
Armed violence in several neighborhoods of Port-au-Prince has led to a massive displacement of families to informal camps. Thes communities are living in extremely precarious conditions, exposed to hunger, health risks and insecurity. The organization Action et Transformation conducted a survey of displaced households to identify their priority needs and define areas for intervention. The survey results reveal three major challenges: Food insecurity Lack of hygiene supplies, Need financial aid.
We propose the creation of a fund structured on three complementary components, dedicated to humanitarian emergencies, provides for the distribution of food and hygiene kits, with a budget allocated to food and hygiene. The second component, focused on relocation, consists of direct financial assistance to enable families to leave the camps, funded by a specific budget. Finally, the third component, centered on empowerment, aims to support the establishment of income-generating micro-enterprises
Immediately improving the living conditions of displaced persons, combined with a gradual reduction in their dependence on camps, is an essential step toward sustainable stabilization. This process helps build community resilience and restore dignity to households, opening the way for a positive long-term impact.
