English in Mind Institute (EIM) provides high quality, affordable English classes to adults in Port-au-Prince, along with job placement assistance.
It's definitely been a challenging year in Haiti with insecurity, gang violence, and fuel shortages still impacting much of Port-au-Prince. Additionally, our community suffered some personal losses. But as always, we've continued to come together as a community and are as committed as ever to keeping EIM going strong.
We have a staff of 16 people who rely on the stable income EIM provides. We're raising money to keep these salaries going throughout the year. We are also raising money for our Emergency Fund that will enable us to provide extra support to staff members who experience medical emergencies or acts of theft and violence. We feel honored to have the opportunity to be there when it's needed most.
English in Mind is an educational oasis for over 200 students and teachers striving for an edge in the employment world. In Haiti someone with a high school degree who speaks English will often be chosen for work over someone with a university degree who does not. It's just that powerful.
