This project, the Diani Children's Village, helps orphans, abandoned and abused children in Kenya and provide them with a home, education and basic needs. A good education will provide a proper foundation for an independent and successful life. Apart from formal education we also personally engage with the children to teach them the necessary life skills through our self generating income projects like our workshop and poultry project.
There are many children who have lost their parents at a very young age, often due to HIV. Orphans are left with relatives or friends for who the extra children is often a burden which frequently results in abuse. Children from HIV positive parents are most of the time not being accepted by relatives, and often end up in the street if they don't receive care in time.
The project is providing basic needs, shelter and education and looks after the children until they are at a mature age and ready to live by themselves. The aim is to give the small children love and care so that they can grow up like healthy and confident children. We encourage the older children to study and help them to find jobs or training opportunities to make them independent.
Our social workers are working closely with the Children's Department and Social Services to find out more about the children's background, and have over the years been able to reunite a number of the children with their communities. Good care and education gives the youngsters a chance to excel in life and give back to the community. The opportunities continue to grow as more children become young adults and start their own independent life, which is often a great example for the younger ones.
