Help Nigerian Women Access Reproductive Healthcare

Thanks to your support, we brought cervical cancer screening, vaccines, and HIV testing to nearly 120 women and girls this last quarter. In Dukpa, a remote Abuja community, we paired cervical cancer screening and vaccination, with HIV education and testing.  

• 43 girls (aged 9 to 15) received vaccinations against cervical cancer.
• 21 women got pap smears at a health facility in the community.
• 52  individuals received HIV tests

Vaccinated girls have a reduced risk of getting cervical cancer in the future. People who received HIV counseling and testing know their status, and how to protect themselves and their loved ones from contracting HIV. 

Knowledge is a vaccine too

Nearly 9 in 10 women and girls gained new knowledge on how to protect their health, and committed to tell their peers and neighbors about HPV vaccines, cervical cancer screening, and HIV testing.  Before the intervention: 

• Most (90%) of the women and girls had never heard of cervical cancer, and they did not know how HPV – the virus that causes cervical cancer – is spread.
• More than half (51%) of the women and girls had never heard of HIV. 
• Nearly 8 in 10 of the women have never been tested for HIV
