Summary

Nicaragua is engulfed in a political conflict which is adversely affecting the poor borrowers we work with. People living in remote, rural areas of Nicaragua have had their businesses disrupted by road closures, products not getting to market, and school closures. WCCN is cooperating with a local microfinance institution to provide financial relief to its poor borrowers, to help get people back on their feet.

Challenge

Low-income individuals in rural Nicaragua, especially women, have been adversely affected by the political conflict there. This traps farmers and entrepreneurs in a cycle of poverty by preventing them from earning income and getting access to new working capital. WCCN's partner microfinance institution, COOPEFACSA, will provide access to credit and business training for entrepreneurs and farmers, with particular emphasis on financial services for women.

Solution

Your support will address poverty and social injustice in Nicaragua by providing relief to over 1,600 rural farmers and business owners with access to capital that they can use keep their businesses going. Funds from this project will provide the link between these borrowers' hard work and their economic success.

Long-Term Impact

This project will allow COOPEFACSA to expand access to financial services to 1,600 under-served farmers and entrepreneurs in the rural communities surrounding Nueva Guinea and El Rama in Nicaragua. These individuals will have the opportunity to work their way out of poverty and improve their family's quality of life. This project will have a high social impact in rural Nicaragua as these communities become empowered to rise out of poverty as a result of their hard work.
