We are approaching the last term of the 2016 South African school year and our two schools, Mzamomhle Primary and St Mary’s Primary, that are supported by the project “Help more South African children achieve in Maths” are hard at work. These schools have completed 82% of their weekly online Maths exercises and 100% of the classes completed their Mid-year assessments, an excellent achievement, well done!
We are passionate in our goal of using ICT to make a measurable difference to Maths in schools. We are using our online Curriculum to track every single learner through every question that they complete. Through this Project, learners are able to do two Maths lesson a week online and two termly assessments.
We asked learner at the two Project schools why they love doing their Maths exercises and assessments online rather than in their books and here is what they said:
"The Green Shoots online maths programme is very logical and exciting. I enjoy working with school work online because it is smart and is even better than writing with pen and paper. It teaches me a lot and is very helpful because it corrects your mistakes when you submit your test." – Mohammed, grade 7
Doing their Maths exercises and assessments online gives learners access to instant feedback, which very importantly means learners can immediately understand the mistakes they have made and correct them.
"The Green Shoots Online maths programme is easier than working in a book. I like it because it’s fun, they answer you immediately and shows your corrections. It gives you more information. We all love doing it and please continue to give us more challenges." – Josiane, grade 7
Thanks to your generous donations, this project "Help more South African children achieve in Maths” is able to provide learners like Mohammed and Josaine with a tool to help them to not only excel in Maths but ultimately allow them an opportunity to make their biggest dreams come true.
