pongal celebration at sri arunodayam

Dear Friends and Well-wishers,

Greetings from Sri Arunodayam, We are happy to inform that pongal has been celebrated at Sri Arunodayam and we are happy to share this with you.

It’s time to celebrate and rejoice and yes, the festive season of pongal has arrived. As we all know Pongal is a festival which is celebrated for four days consequently. Bhogi, in which we eradicate old things, thoughts etc and buy r cultivate new things and thoughts. Thai pongal, where they celebrate the arrival of new month Thai and it also known as harvesting and thanks giving festival for nature and other things which were helpful to them. Maatu Pongal, which is celebrated and dedicated to cows. Kannum Pongal is dedicated to visiting family and friends.

We the staff and the children of Sri Arunodayam charitable trust takes this festival seriously and gives all the children of Arunodayam the actual spirit of celebrating pongal. The usual celebration of pongal at Sri Arunodayam will always happen in an unusual way as it is celebrated in villages.  The set up of the festival stated by tying of decorative items (thoeranam), tying of flower garlands throughout the premises, drawing of colorful rangoli in the premises and finally the decoration of pongal pot. New clothes were given to all the children of Sri Arunodayam to retrieve the fun of pongal in each one of them.

The stove to cook pongal has been set up with natural things bricks and sticks and it was fired. Followed by praising of nature and sun, the pongal pot was set on to cook with all its ingredients. When the pongal is cooked and ready to serve, the famous yelling of “pongalooo pongal, pongalooo pongal” happened. With celebration of singing pongal songs and having fun happened throughout the festival.

Finally, a sweet pongal and white pongal with vegetable curry which were prepared from vegetables harvested in our garden were enjoyed by everyone stomach full…

Cherishing and greeting everyone is the actual impact of celebrations, it gives fulfillment to us when we know that it has been achieved…..
