Third Quarter Report 2023

Your support enables us to make a meaningful impact on the lives of survivors in human trafficking. In the last quarter, we achieved several crucial milestones to protect vulnerable groups and assist those who have been exploited. This quarterly report stands as evidence that your generous contributions have played a key role in bringing freedom and justice to these survivors.

The highlights include:

Identification: The intelligence and investigative teams collected critical information and analysed 186 reports that were disseminated. Consequently , 5 new cases of sexual exploitation and human trafficking were initiated. Our team's combined efforts resulted in the successful removal of 23 victims from harm.
Protect and Prosecute : Total 1,954 times of support activities to survivors were provided by our social workers and legal experts. Both teams worked tirelessly together to ensure that survivors are not re-traumatized during the prosecution process, assess their reintegration journey smoothly, and provide comprehensive follow up on their mental and physical well being.

Strengthening Law Enforcement Capacity: The operation team provides specialised online investigative,case management, and victim impact statement preparation training to 22 law enforcement officers and NGOs staff. These trainings aim to enhance their capabilities in addressing online human trafficking, gathering critical evidence for court proceedings, and improving quality for trafficking cases management as this group of law enforcement and partners represents the first crucial line of assistance to victims.

Additional Highlight: Raising awareness to protect children from online threats and human trafficking.

In collaboration with LAP (Lively Awareness Project), LIFT has shared its resources and expertise to raise awareness among children aged 12-17 who are vulnerable to online sexual exploitation. This project offered ongoing training to students and teachers in border patrol schools in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son provinces from July to August. While the internet offers global benefits, the risk of online threats has risen, especially among those who are less informed about safe internet usage.

"While training, we had a sharing session where many children shared their experiences of getting online threats from strangers who chatted and sent them inappropriate images or videos. It was concerning that the children experiencing this were becoming younger," said Win, LAP founder

The U.S. Embassy funded this prevention project and marked its successful closure by participating in the final border school activities in Chiang Dao. A thousand students and teachers from the project's target group have successfully completed, led by LAP's excellence and in collaboration with several NGOs like LIFT International.

Second Quarterly Report 2023

LIFT's work is committed to liberating and restoring the dignity and security of those exploited in sex trafficking. Our team works closely with partners to enhance the capabilities of local law enforcement and other Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) using a child-centric approach. We provide comprehensive services including investigation, forensics, legal support, and social work. Our work aims to ensure that survivors receive the legal assistance to seek justice while holding offenders accountable, thus preventing future instances of trafficking.

From March to June 2023, we made significant progress in aiding exploited individuals. Here are the highlights:

Six new cases of sexual exploitation and trafficking were opened during this quarter. Our intelligence team, along with our law enforcement support team, worked tirelessly with law enforcement partners to collect evidence and identify potential victims. This involved conducting9 forensic extractions and producing 23 intelligence and investigation reports. These results have ensured that justice is served to protect survivors and provide fair punishment for targeted predators.

A total of 142 victims were removed from harm during last four months. Notably, LIFT’s social workers, along with other NGO partners, adopted a child-centric approach to aid the National Police Agency in conducting forensic interviews for children who had endured abuse at a shelter. A crucial case involving online exploitation and trafficking was identified by LIFT and local law enforcement, resulting in the removal of male teenagers from the harm of online sexual exploitation. Currently, they are safe and receiving continuous support from legal assistants and social workers.

A total of 62 survivors have received legal support during the past four months. The dedication of legal experts has been proven through 209 hours of related legal support activities for survivors. To illustrate our commitment to justice, ten girls were rescued from sexual trafficking and received compensation (totaling $53,000 USD) in the previous months as a result of our efforts. Consequently, the court has sentenced a man, convicted of being a client of child sexual trafficking services, to 52 years and 6 months' imprisonment without parole. The severity of this penalty reflects the gravity of child sexual trafficking.

First Quarter Report 2023 (LIFT International)

LIFT International continued its mission to strengthen justice systems, support survivors, and hold offenders accountable for their offences of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. To have a far-reaching impact in stopping more traffickers and protecting more survivors, we worked closely with local Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT) with a child-centric approach and partnered with law enforcement. This resulted in the achieved outcomes during November 2022 to February 2023.

This quarter's highlights include:

Identification: The intelligence and investigative teams collected critical information and created 21 reports that were disseminated. They also conducted 17 deployments to support anti-human trafficking efforts. In addition, LIFT provided extraction services for six devices to partners, allowing for the collection of crucial digital evidence. These combined efforts resulted in the successful arrest of four offenders.

Protect and Prosecute : Total 94 support activities to 26 survivors were provided by our social workers and legal experts. Both teams work together to ensure that victims are not re-traumatized during the prosecution process. These support activities included the provision of 18 lovepacks, counselling, updates on their cases, and case referral.

Survivors' stories remind us of our work's significance. Earlier this year, LIFT's team met with Fai*, a recovered survivor of sexual trafficking. She has well reintegrated into her community and now inspires others by helping girls who have faced similar experiences.
