MRO owns three second-hand cars to provide transport and reintegration services to orphans and vulnerable children in Cambodia, including those cared for in our Emergency Foster Care program and those rescued from abusive situations. The cars (a 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser, a 2001 Toyota Highlander and a 1999 Kia Visto) carry out on average 178 missions per year to help about 850 vulnerable children. These cars are becoming unsafe to drive, and new ones are needed to continue our life-saving work.
M'lup Russey's cars are becoming too unsafe to use. A new one is needed to continue our life-saving work. In 2019, $3,542.05 was spent on car maintenance, and in 2020 $4,265.90 has already been spent. It is becoming too costly and dangerous to keep these old cars running on the rural roads in Cambodia. With safety already compromised, COVID-19 adds more risk- we don't want to break down on a mission and unnecessarily expose staff, foster children and other vulnerable populations to the virus.
Having a brand new car would make completing our average of 178 missions a year to provide essential services to 850 orphans across Cambodia so much safer and efficient, for our staff team and the children we have a duty of care for. Less time and expense would be needed to repair broken-down cars, freeing the teams up to continue to provide top alternative care and social work services, without the added burden of using funds for a rental car when our older cars are in the shop being repaired.
Buying a new car in 2020 will ensure that we can continue the high-quality services needed by the children in our emergency foster care program. MRO has a history of taking good care of their vehicles and over the next 20 years, a new car would help us undertake over 3,560 missions positively impacting the lives of over 17,000 children in need. With your help towards a new car, we look forward to providing quality care and services to Cambodia's orphans and vulnerable children into the future.
