There are two Bon monks at the Menri Monastery in Dolanji, India, who use essential oils to treat monks and Bon villagers in the settlement. The senior monk wrote the following report:
“I was away in France (January through June 2012). Prior to leaving Menri Monastery, in September and October 2011, I prepared some useful essential oil blends with Tenzin Paljor, the young monk interested in essential oils. We followed recipes from the book "Essential Oils, Integrative Medical Guide" by Gary Young, ND. : antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, digestive, energy balance, immune, pain relief, respiratory, liver blends
While I was away from the monastery, Tenzin Paljor used these blends on 6 patients, with satisfactory results when the monks being treated did the complete one-week treatment. He mainly treated skin ailments/boils, and body pain.
Tenzin Paljor needs some reliable simple medical books that would help him to diagnose illnesses, as he has (and I have) no medical training at all. Books on essential oils would be very helpful too. Used-up/second-hand books are fine of course.
Since July, I have been back at Menri Monastery. It is the monsoon season with repeated rains, and I have helped patients with skin sores due to infected insect bites, infected cuts, and with influenza and cough. I mainly rely on Dominique Baudoux’s book "L'aromathérapie", Se soigner par les huiles essentielles". Some examples of blends I used are :
severe infection blend (oils: Chinese cinnamon, thyme thujanol, mountain savoury, in ratio 1, 2, 2)
insect bites blend (oils: lavender aspic, tea tree, geranium Rosat, in ratio 3, 1, 1) to apply every 3 minutes until improvement.
It is very spectacular to watch that after many applications, the skin sore opens up and pus can flow out.”
A representative from Creating Hope International will be traveling to India in November to deliver many of the essential oils requested by the monks and bought with the funds that you all have so generously donated.
If any of you are experts and essential oils and have books that you can donate as requested by the senior monk in his report, please send them to Creating Hope International at P.O. Box 1058, Dearborn, MI 48121. The books will be sent or delivered to the monks.
Don’t forget! The holidays are a great time to share your passion for the Essential Oils Project! GlobalGiving offers gift certificates which can be used to donate to this project. Also, beginning December 1st, the initial donation made by recurring donors will be matched 100% by GlobalGiving. There is only $25,000 available in matching funds, so help us take advantage of this opportunity early!
