This project aims to provide economic support to female survivors of gender-based violence residing at our domestic violence shelter, as they transition back into society. Many survivors express a desire to start a business or small enterprise as a way to gain financial independence, break free from relying on their abusers for support, and rebuild their lives after experiencing trauma. To help them achieve this goal, we need benevolent individuals to help them realize that dream.
The capital support requested by survivors typically ranges between $63 and $1000. Unfortunately, The Ark is only able to offer between $19 and $31, leaving survivors without sufficient funds to launch their businesses. This financial gap creates extra stress for survivors, as they must seek additional funding, which can hinder their recovery and lead to a relapse into depression. In a year, this project will benefit over 100 survivors of abuse who seek assistance at our facility.
This fundraising initiative will provide more substantial capital support to survivors. By increasing our financial contributions, we aim to alleviate the burden on survivors, allowing them to focus on their recovery and long-term economic empowerment. Our goal is to help them secure the full amount they need to successfully start their businesses, reducing the need to rely on external, uncertain funding sources.
Economic independence is vital for survivors of abuse, who often come from backgrounds where they had little control over their lives. This project aims to support over 100 survivors annually by providing capital to help them build sustainable businesses. With this financial support, survivors will gain confidence, agency, and the means to reintegrate into society, supporting themselves and their families, and improving their quality of life after leaving the shelter.
