Bator Tabor Foundation organizes 2 international, multilingual, recreational camp sessions for children fighting with cancer in the summer of 2017. In these sessions 140 children (7-18 years) from Central-Eastern Europe participate completely free of charge including their travel to Hungary. 200 volunteers and a professional medical team look after them and organize the camp programs. Bator Tabor returns cancer-afflicted children to their carefree childhood.
Cancer puts a heavy burden on the shoulder of the sick child and her family mentally, physically, and also financially. Anxiety and uncertainty become part of their everyday life. Due to the child's health condition and regular medication seriously ill children need special attention that normal camps cannot guarantee. Often children and parents are afraid to leave the safe environment of the clinic or home. The illness implies a serious strain on the child and means a decreased life quality.
All donations will help provide a place where these children can find refuge from everyday struggle and regain strength in mentally and physically safe environment under medical supervision. We place children outside of their comfort zone through special experiences. All programs are prepared to provide challenge and a feeling of success which positively influence campers' self-esteem. By overcoming their fears, they recognise their ability to confront their illness and overcome their obstacles.
Bator Tabor changes lives. By the end of camp children realize that illness and its consequences don't define them. A camper whose leg was amputated to save his life climbed the high-ropes course and said:After this nothing will hold me back. Not even the fact that I have only one leg." A 2013 study run by Yale University found that: 83% of caregivers reported an increase in child's confidence; 80% reported an increase in self-esteem; and 72% reported an increased interest in social activities.
