Summary

Siti, a lone young Moor macaque rescued from the illegal pet trade in Malaysia urgently needs to be transported back to her native home in Indonesia. Moor Macaques are endemic to the island of Sulawesi and are now sadly endangered. Macaques are a very social species and she desperately needs to be with others of her own kind. A new home has been found for her there with other macaques at a specialist primate sanctuary. Please help us return her home and help conserve this endangered species.

Challenge

Siti is a Moor Macaque currently living on her own at a wildlife park in Malaysia. Macaques are a very social species and she desperately needs to be with others of her own kind. Moor Macaques are endemic to the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia, so her carers have asked Wild Welfare for help in repatriating her there. We have found Siti a new home at Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue Centre's Macaque Sanctuary, which can provide for her welfare needs. We urgently need to raise funds to transport her there.

Solution

We plan to transport her via the quickest route, an air charter flight. Once there Siti will be integrated into a small group of young rescued individuals. For the first time Siti will have the chance to interact with other macaques which is critical for such a social species. In her new home she will also have a much larger, more natural environment to live in, where she can forage for food, climb trees, play and groom, ensuring she has a better quality of life and the chance to thrive.

Long-Term Impact

Sit's immediate and long-term welfare needs will be met, ensuring she can live a happy and fulfilled life with other macaques. Moor Macaques are Sulawesi's most endangered species, so Siti is very important for their conservation and survival and it is hoped that this small troop will have the possibility of eventual release back into the wild. Please help give Siti the new life that she deserves, improve her welfare and ensure the protection of this endangered species for the future.
