GEM is facing a sudden funding crisis while responding to an overwhelming rise in emergency cases from LGBTQIA+ individuals in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Gaza, and Turkey. Many partner organizations have shut down, leaving us as a last resort. Without urgent funding, we are being forced to pause essential services like cash aid, mental health support, and protection work-putting lives at risk.
This project will help GEM restore emergency services for LGBTQIA+ individuals in crisis, including cash assistance, mental health support, and protection services. It will also allow us to retain key staff, respond to urgent referrals, and continue operating safely across Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Gaza, and Turkey-ensuring no one is left behind when help is most needed.
This project will sustain one of the region's few LGBTQIA+ organizations still operating on the ground. It ensures ongoing access to life-saving services, strengthens community resilience, and preserves a vital safe space for LGBTQIA+ people in crisis across Syria and beyond.
