LGBTQIA+ people in Syria face escalating violence, persecution, displacement, and threats to their lives. This project will help GEM restore lifesaving shelter, mental health support, protection services, and urgent assistance.
LGBTQIA+ people in Syria are facing escalating assaults, persecution, displacement, and threats to their lives. Requests for help are rising rapidly, while the global funding crisis has forced GEM to suspend programs and lifesaving services. People continue reaching our support line in urgent need of safety, protection, shelter, and mental health support, but our resources to respond have been exhausted.
Donations will help GEM restart and sustain its lifesaving response for LGBTQIA+ people at risk. Support will help provide temporary safe shelter, mental health counselling, individual protection plans, and responses to urgent requests through our support line. It will also restore the staff and operational capacity needed to respond safely and effectively when community members face immediate danger.
This project will help rebuild a reliable, community-led protection system for LGBTQIA+ people facing violence and persecution in Syria. Beyond responding to immediate emergencies, it will help people move toward greater safety, stability, dignity, and recovery. Sustaining GEM's capacity also means that when new threats or waves of violence emerge, community members will continue to have a trusted place to turn. In the long term, the project will strengthen the resilience of LGBTQIA+ communitie
