You change the world - thank you!

By Monika Mostowska | vicepresident

Dear Friend,

Thank you for standing with families in Burkina Faso at a time when they have been forced to begin again with almost nothing.

This project supports a community of refugees and internally displaced people living near Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. Around 450 people, including many children, found shelter in this camp after fleeing violence in the northern part of the country. They left behind their homes, villages, belongings, and normal daily life after terrorist attacks made it impossible for them to remain safely where they lived.

For many families, displacement meant losing everything at once: security, income, food supplies, access to school, and the feeling of belonging to a stable community. When they arrived near Ouagadougou, their most urgent needs were very simple and very serious: food, hygiene products, clothing, and education for their children.

Through this project, donations are sent to trusted missionaries working locally. They know the families personally and can respond quickly to the most urgent needs. Thanks to this support, aid reaches the people directly and is used for food, hygiene supplies, basic necessities, and school-related costs for children.

At this stage, the project’s total goal was €5,142, with only €67 remaining. The project has been active for 5 years. This shows how close we are to reaching the goal — but also how important it is to continue, because the needs of these families have not disappeared.

Burkina Faso has been facing a serious humanitarian crisis caused by terrorist violence and insecurity. Many civilians have been forced to flee their homes, especially from the northern regions of the country. The families supported through this project came from the province of Bourgangha, from the village of Pisile, where a brutal attack took place. Nine people were killed, many others were injured, and the survivors escaped in fear.

Most of the displaced families in the camp are Muslim. They now live in very difficult conditions, far from their homes and without the resources they need to rebuild their lives independently.

The camp is located about 8 km from Polish missionaries, who became one of the first reliable sources of help for the displaced community. Their presence is important not only because they provide material support, but also because they offer trust, stability, and a human response to people who have experienced violence and loss.

Your donations have helped provide immediate and practical assistance to families who were in urgent need.

The project has supported:

  • food for families facing hunger and insecurity;

  • hygiene products and sanitary supplies;

  • clothing and basic necessities;

  • school-related costs so that children can continue their education;

  • direct local assistance coordinated by missionaries who understand the situation on the ground.

This help has protected families from the worst consequences of displacement. It has helped them survive the first and most fragile stage after fleeing their homes. It has also allowed children to return to school, which is one of the most important steps toward restoring normal life.

For a child who has experienced fear and escape, school is not only a place of learning. It is a place of routine, safety, friendship, and hope. It helps children look forward again instead of remaining trapped in trauma and uncertainty.

Although much has already been achieved, the refugees still need support. Emergency aid saved lives, but now the challenge is to help families move toward greater stability and self-sufficiency.

As an NGO, we would like to provide more long-term assistance. This means not only helping families survive from day to day, but also supporting them in rebuilding their independence. Children need education. Parents need opportunities for work, even small jobs, so they can regain confidence, dignity, and the ability to provide for their families.

The goal is not to make people dependent on aid. The goal is to accompany them through the most difficult moment and help them stand on their own feet again.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term impact of this project is measured not only in meals distributed or school fees paid. It is measured in restored dignity.

Thanks to your generosity:

families have received food when they had none;
children have been able to continue learning;
parents have gained time and strength to look for work;
the community has received hygiene support and basic protection;
people who were forced to flee violence have discovered that they are not forgotten.

This assistance gives families a real chance to move from survival toward recovery. It helps prevent hunger, illness, exclusion, and the loss of education among children. It also gives adults the possibility to rebuild confidence and look for ways to support their families again.

Thank You

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

Your support has reached people who lost their homes, their safety, and their ordinary lives. You helped provide food, hygiene, school access, and dignity to families who had already suffered far too much.

Because of you, the camp near Ouagadougou is not only a place where people wait. It can also become a place where hope begins again.

Thank you for your compassion, your trust, and your solidarity with the displaced families of Burkina Faso.
