Our member organization World Vision implemented the project “Let us learn” in two refugee camps in Northiraq. During the last weeks World Vision established two child friendly spaces and new playgrounds. These playgrounds can be used for sport games, football and volleyball competition as well as rhythmic and aerobic exercises. Despite providing for the children their right to play, we believe that games are also a way of learning and developing for children. They learn and practice new skills such as group work, communication, collaboration, team spirit etc. In addition to the sports space, the project team has been working on establishing a garden area based on stakeholder consultations with the children. A consultant has been hired to help the community members and staff to design and build the garden in a manner, that it’s potential for integration into the learning and psychosocial activities targeting children can be maximized. The gardening activities will be an integrated part in this curriculum. They will supplement the education, children get in formal schools as well as serve as a therapeutic activity that is designed to provide psychosocial support to children through stress reduction.
Through a better infrastructure of learning spaces and facilities, World Vision assured a safe and protective learning environment for internally displaced children. These children are pictured here, using their new sports equipment.
