Millions of people are displaced, fleeing from armed conflict, persecution or other threats, and looking for a better, safer future in other countries. These people need help in their countries of origin (such as Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan and Pakistan), in transit countries (such as Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Greece and the Balkans), as well as in Germany.
In the countries of origin and transit countries, our member organizations provide medical care, hospital supplies, psychosocial support and food. In Germany, they run refugee centers in numerous locations, look after unaccompanied refugee minors, assist refugees in finding housing and jobs, offer language courses and support for refugees.
The situation is constantly evolving, but one thing is sure: it is crucial to have an immediate response to help refugees right now. If we forsake refugees now, we will miss the opportunities to have a positive long term impact. There is no quick-fix for the situation, therefore both refugees and the humanitarian community need to be patient and persevere.
