Worldwide, 134 million people depend on humanitarian aid, many of them live in South Sudan. The ongoing civil war, recurrent droughts, hunger and poverty leave millions of people in the African country no choice: they have to flee their homeland and need help. Despite all the dangers our humanitarian assistants are there for the children, women and men in need.
Faizah Korgan* left South Sudan in 2016. With her family, the now 60-year-old fled to Ethiopia on foot: "The flight was long and exhausting. There were times when I thought we would not make it," she says, but they did it.
In the refugee camp, employees from our member organisation HelpAge asked if Faizah Korgan wanted to start her own small business. She took part in a workshop with other refugees and was able to open a shop with the help of seed capital. There she sells food such as oil, milk and biscuits. "I'm so happy with the new store. The shop gives me hope for the future" she says, beaming.
Thanks to your donation, Faizah Korgan and many other refugees can now start a better life. Thank you very much for your support!
