Technology Gift Paves the Way for Future Growth

Computers have come to Club Esperanza!
Our friends at Austin Samaritans in Texas brought down a huge blessing for the Tutoring program at Club Esperanza during their last visit. They were able to get a donation of 10 Dell Mini laptops that have been refurbished and programmed in Spanish. What a HUGE blessing!
The world we live in is advancing technologically and we want to be able to offer our students the best chance to succeed in the world. The deck is stacked against our kids already, but we want to bust past any barriers in their way! These computers are going to be a huge part of that. They are already on super high demand every afternoon at Club Esperanza. Our tutors jockey to be first in line to sign them out of the office for use in their classroom (I think the kids send them over first thing!). In fact our internet can’t even keep up with all of them! It is so great.
As we look towards the future one of the improvements we would like to make for Club Espernaza in 2016 is to complete a computer lab. We actually have a small room that we can use. We just need to do some remodeling to make it capable of being a computer lab….including electrical wiring, network system setup, installing desks and computer chairs, as well as air conditioning the space so the computers last. Ideally we would put desktop computers in the lab, so that the mini computers can remain mobile but be checked out and used in classrooms.
All of your gifts, prayers, and support keep us continually encouraged - good things are happening at Club Esperanza and YOU are a part of that!

A CCLE Makeover!
By Katie Adams (for Chris and Krista Farrington) | Executive Director, NicaWorks!
![Play can be hard work!]()
Play can be hard work!
Earlier this summer we had a wonderful group come down from Tallahassee and go to work at Club Esperanza while all the children were away on their summer vacations. Their idea was to do a complete makeover of the Club’s Academic building…painting all the walls, changing color schemes, putting up new wall art, building custom play sets for specified play areas, etc… All with the hopes that the children and staff would have a HUGE surprise when they got back to school….you know, that “Move That Bus” experience!
Well, it definitely worked and the Club looks so beautiful with its new makeover and of course all the kids loved it…it was hard to pull them away from all their new fun play areas! Even better than that, was how much the teachers appreciated their newly painted and decorated rooms as well as all the teaching materials, portable radios and shelving units they each received in their classrooms. As anyone who is a teacher can attest to, to have help revamping your classroom is a HUGE blessing! And then to see all the little play units which are so cute….the crew that custom made the kids play areas were so impressive!

Off to a Great School Year at CCLE!

Expanding space to give little kids lots of room!
Our main impact on High School aged kids is our scholarship program. We have a select group of students that are in need of a some extra help to make it through the school year. Public school here is free but each student is required to wear a uniform and then there are all the costs of school supplies and school activity that add up throughout the year. We meet those needs and then incorporate monthly “youth group” type meetings and also service projects every month. It is a great way for us to impact the lives of teenagers! With the generosity of the nonprofit Love, Light & Melody we were able to take all the kids on a shopping spree for new school year clothes and a special ice cream treat.
We've also been doing a lot of construction at CCLE starting with the end of the school year last November. In the main education building we knocked down walls and expanded the sizes of the preschool classrooms. For the last two years our preschool classes have been in classes about half the size that they should be, so it was good to fix that! We also did a lot of landscaping and laying stone in the vehicle entrance as well as putting up a fence to make our playground its own separate space. Last but not least? An outdoors teacher lounge. Well-deserved for our staff that cares for all of these kids so patiently, faithfully...and joyfully!
