Off to a Great School Year at CCLE!

Expanding space to give little kids lots of room!
More than 300 children are enrolled in Club Cristiana La Esperanza programs for the 2015 school year! Our staff of 13 Nicaraguans engage with the children and their families in many ways including preschool and kindergarten classes, elementary school tutoring and a high school scholarship program. We also have great arts and sports programs, including a partnership with Lacrosse the Nations. Of course the highlight of the day for most kids is the meals we provide twice a day - many of these children would not otherwise eat. By meeting the educational and nutritional needs we have doors opened to us to care for our students, minister to their families, and deal head-on with hard things that thrive in impoverished environments including drug addiction, sexual abuse, gang violence, and violence against women and children.

Our main impact on High School aged kids is our scholarship program.  We have a select group of students that are in need of a some extra help to make it through the school year.  Public school here is free but each student is required to wear a uniform and then there are all the costs of school supplies and school activity that add up throughout the year. We meet those needs and then incorporate monthly “youth group” type meetings and also service projects every month.  It is a great way for us to impact the lives of teenagers! With the generosity of the nonprofit Love, Light & Melody we were able to take all the kids on a shopping spree for new school year clothes and a special ice cream treat.

We've also been doing a lot of construction at CCLE starting with the end of the school year last November. In the main education building we knocked down walls and expanded the sizes of the preschool classrooms. For the last two years our preschool classes have been in classes about half the size that they should be, so it was good to fix that! We also did a lot of landscaping and laying stone in the vehicle entrance as well as putting up a fence to make our playground its own separate space. Last but not least? An outdoors teacher lounge. Well-deserved for our staff that cares for all of these kids so patiently, faithfully...and joyfully!
