The project Help Feed 800 school age children in the underpriviledged neighborhood of La Vega (one of the poorest sectors in Caracas) by Fundacion Pabellón con Arepa and Fundacion Oportunidad y Futuro ended last year on a high note.

In 2018, Fundacion Pabellón con Arepa became part of a nationwide contest for new enterprises in the category of Non-For Profit Organization entities (Emprendimientos Sociales). For details on the contest, go to the link Concurso Ideas 2018. Participants of this contest received workshops and free advice from experts in different areas with the objective of increasing their skills and knowledge and make their projects sustainable. We are proud to share that the project Help Feed 800 School Age Children was granted the “Premio a la Conciencia” awarded by Ford Motors Venezuela at the prestigious Venezuelan business school Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administration (IESA) on November 15th, 2018. As a direct consequence of its participation in this contest, Fundacion Pabellón con Arepa has been able to establish alliances with corporations that support the mission of the foundation.

For example, in December Sodexo (a multinational corporation who provide food services and facilities management) supported a Christmas event for the children bringing toys and inflatable jump rentals for both the Canaima and Semillas del Mañana schools. Sodexo employees also volunteered in this event. Children also received a traditional Venezuelan Christmas meal called hallacas provided by Fundacion Pabellon con Arepas.

Also, an alliance was made with a nationwide chain of movie theaters (Cines Unidos). Through this alliance, 187 children as well as some parents who served as chaperones were transported from La Vega to the Galerias Avila movie theater in the city where they received tickets to watch The Incredibles movie and were greeted with popcorns and sodas in order to provide them with a complete experience at a movie theater.

Despite economic challenges in the country, Fundacion Pabellon con Arepa remains focused in its mission to provide food for children in La Vega and to keep them in the school system.
