Mary-ann used to be a auxiliary nurse at the local hospital, but when her husband diagnosed with MS she had to give up work to look after him. On the little money they have coming in she struggles to feed herself and her two teenage children. She says that the Friday meal provides her with the weekly respite she needs to keep going. She would love for her children to learn how to cook to share the burden, but she is too tired and doesn't have time. She relies on the Friday meal to pick up veg
We meet 150 people like Mary-Ann every week. We deliver a free hot meal every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday to people, using volunteers and surplus food to help us create nutritious meals, but we need your help to continue. By creating a platform people in need will have access to advice and support services and have access to hot meals everyday of the week bringing people in from the cold to eat & socialise and helping them to regain their humanity.
This project will give at least 200 more people a week a chance to eat well and pick up the fruit and veg missing from their diet and access support to alleviate them from poverty, in the company of new local friends. in the company of new local friends. It will provide 900 opportunities a year for people to gain skills through volunteering & training.
